AMERICAN BAPTIST GENERAL BOARD COMMENDS 
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 
BAPTIST CONVENTION FOR `125 YEARS OF UNIQUE 
PARTNERSHIP'
 The American Baptist Churches USA General 
Board, at its semiannual sessions last week, issued a 
"Statement of Affirmation: District of Columbia Baptist 
Convention-125 Years of Unique Partnership." 
 The text of the statement follows:
 "The General Board of American Baptist Churches 
USA celebrates with our brothers and sisters in the District 
of Columbia Baptist Convention (DCBC) on the occasion of 
their 125th Annual Meeting held on November 12-13, 2001.
 "From its beginning, the DCBC has been strongly 
committed to effective ministry in the D.C. metropolitan 
area.  The region's 140 churches represent tremendous 
racial, ethnic, and language diversity, yet are united in 
their commitment to work cooperatively in sharing Christ's 
love and salvation.
 "The DCBC was originally constituted as a dually-
aligned region, holding mission partnerships with both 
American Baptist Churches USA and the Southern Baptist 
Convention.  This partnership has provided a unique 
platform for mission cooperation between two national 
Baptist bodies.  In 1997, this strong partnership was 
expanded to include the Progressive National Baptist 
Convention.
 "We congratulate the DCBC on this special 
anniversary and encourage them to continue their 
leadership in building bridges of unity that enable effective 
ministry in the national capital region.  American Baptist 
Churches USA is proud of this unique partnership and 
looks forward to further strengthening our ties with the 
DCBC."
