ELCA'S CAPITAL UNIVERSITY NAMES NEW PRESIDENT
01-306-MR/MC**
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Dr. Theodore L. Fredrickson, 56, Minneapolis,
will become the 14th president of Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, on
April 1, 2002. Capital is one of 28 colleges and universities of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Fredrickson succeeds Daniel A. Felicetti, who announced last
spring his intention to leave as president of Capital to pursue other
career opportunities. Dr. Paul J. Dovre, retired president of the
ELCA's Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., is serving as interim
president of Capital.
Since 1995, Fredrickson has served as dean for the Graduate School
of Business, University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. Prior to that
year, he served at St. Thomas for 21 years in a variety of positions,
including professor, associate dean and director for the university's
Division of Business.
Fredrickson has facilitated student and faculty exchanges between
St. Thomas and higher educational institutions throughout the world. He
has established exchange agreements with schools in Australia, Canada,
Cuba, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Japan, the People's Republic of
China, Siberia, Taiwan and Uruguay.
Prior to his service at St. Thomas, Fredrickson held teaching
positions at Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada,
University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo., and the ELCA's Waldorf
College, Forest City, Iowa.
In 1974 Fredrickson earned a doctorate in management and in 1968
earned a master's degree in business education from the University of
Northern Colorado. He earned a bachelor's degree in business education
from Winona State University, Winona, Minn., in 1967.
"I strongly believe in Capital's dual mission of providing
students with a strong liberal arts foundation, along with career
preparation through its professional programs," Fredrickson said. "I am
proud and humbled to take on this exciting opportunity to lead a small,
comprehensive university in one of the fastest-growing cities in the
Midwest," he said.
Theodore and Diane Fredrickson, an elementary reading specialist,
have two adult children.
