ELCA MEMBER DIES OF INHALATION ANTHRAX
01-307-MR

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- A memorial service was held Nov. 24 for Ottilie
Lundgred, 94, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oxford, Conn., who died of
inhalation anthrax on Nov. 21. The service was held at Immanuel, a
congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
An ecumenical Service of Evening Prayer was held Nov. 25 at
Immanuel to "offer prayers for Ottilie's family, for our community, and
for our country as we continue to make our way through these unsettled
times, which have now touched us so near at hand in the death of our
parishioner and member of the community," said the Rev. Richard Miesel,
Immanuel.
"We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of the medical
staff at Griffin Hospital who cared for Ottilie with such compassion,
and for members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, FBI,
and other agencies who are working so hard in their investigation. Some
of them are far from home and have forfeited their Thanksgiving holiday
in their service to our community and to the nation. We thank them for
their service," Miesel said.
Lundgren died five days after she was admitted to Griffin
Hospital, Derby, Conn. She had suffered from an apparent respiratory
infection after falling ill. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention confirmed the infection after test results at the hospital
and state health laboratory.
