INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- An urgent prayer request has been sent
out from the National Spiritual Council of Churches of Haiti and
the Common Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. Confronted with a
political and social crisis that has been especially harsh in
the last year and the fact that financial aid continues to be
held back by governments worldwide due to Haiti's political
conflicts, the children of that impoverished country, as well as
the majority of the Haitian population, have been greatly
affected.

With more crime in the streets, more people going to bed hungry
each night, more people with illnesses, political and
drug-related assassinations, the churches of Haiti believe that
God has called them to intervene and look for healing in a
country that is broken and bleeding. CONASPEH, The National
Council of Spiritual Churches of Haiti, Common Global Ministry's
partner in Haiti, is spearheading, along with four other
national church organizations, a National Day of Prayer. It is
their belief that if Haiti truly wants to be healed, it must
first ask God to intervene and give the leaders and churches a
new and just direction. For the first time in the history of
Haiti, such a day has been granted to the Protestant Sector of
Haiti.

On Saturday, December 1, the whole of Haiti will be asked to
participate in this National Day of Prayer. The theme for this
special event comes from the Gospel of John 5:7, which asks, "Do
you want to be healed?" It will begin early in the morning (6:00
a.m.) and go through mid-afternoon (2:00 p.m.) at the National
Soccer Stadium, which holds approximately 50,000 people. It is
expected to be full to capacity with faithful people who truly
believe in prayer. All of the churches of Haiti have been asked
to keep their doors open that day so church members can come and
pray for their country.

The churches of Haiti are sending a call to Christians
throughout the world to join them on December 1, 2001 for a day
of prayer. Rev. Patrick Villier, President, CONASPEH, (The
National Council of Spiritual Churches of Haiti), Revs. Ruth and
Charles Wallace, Common Global Ministries, and Rev. Sheron Ward,
Common Global Ministries have joined together in this worldwide
call, expressing their belief that prayer can move mountains and
that prayers of Christians everywhere can truly begin the
healing process for a country that has endured such bitterness
and hurt.
