DOROTHY CHAMBERS, FORMER MISSIONARY 
IN INDIA AND PHILIPPINES, DIES
 Dr. Dorothy Kinney Chambers, former American 
Baptist International Ministries missionary in North East 
India and the Philippines, died Dec. 3 in Ft. Collins, Colo.  
She was 100.
 Chambers was appointed in 1927 by the Women's 
American Baptist Foreign Mission Society for service as a 
medical missionary at the hospital for women and children 
in Gauhati, Assam, India.  After her marriage in 1936 to 
American Baptist missionary the Rev. R. Fred Chambers, 
who was serving at the Jorhat Christian Schools, she 
became physician-surgeon at the Jorhat Mission Hospital. 
 The Chambers were reassigned to the Philippines 
in 1939, where Dorothy served as associate physician at 
the Iloilo Mission Hospital and as director of the Central 
Philippine College Dispensary.  During World War II the 
Chambers and their two children were interned in an 
elementary school in Iloilo.  Later they were sent to the 
Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, where Dorothy 
served as director of the Children's Hospital.  
 The Chambers returned to the States in 1945 and 
resigned from missionary service the following year.
 After returning to the States, Dorothy Chambers 
served on the Board of the Women's American Baptist 
Foreign Mission Society, as a vice-president of the 
American Baptist Convention, and as program chair for the 
National Council of American Baptist Women.  She also 
was active in her local church's women's society and as a 
church school teacher.
 Fred Chambers died in 1985.  Condolences may
