   Five presbyteries (diocese) of the Presbyterian Church in
Taiwan (PCT) are physically situated on the East coast of
the island.  Four of these are ethnically Aboriginal, and one
ethnically Han.  United in faith, they are separated by native
language and culture.
   To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Protestant mission
work on the East coast, these presbyteries will join in July
and August to sponsor a series of events.  Currently the
process for coordination and planning is being put into motion.
rev. Hu Jyh-chiang, Moderator of the ethnic Han
East Coast Presbytery, spoke with The Taiwan Church News
reporting past experience and future hope.
   "Last year the churches in the Hualien area worked together
to hold a "Kingdom of God Mission Rally."  This was the first
large scale event we had done across ethnic lines.  The rural
nature of the East coast and our special mission environment
have prevented much cooperation in the past.  Following the
New Year celebrations next week officers of the five
presbyteries will meet together to learn of each other's current
resources and limitations.  We hope to break through the
barriers to deeper cooperation."
    "It's more than just this celebration of 130 years locally, he

continued. "We also look toward the 140th anniversary of
the foundation of the PCT to be celebrated in 2005."
    Prior to a formal meeting to decide exact plans, ideas are
being floated regarding the setting up of four or five task
groups which will focus on evangelistic work, conferences,
local church support and a training session for clergy in August.

The organizers hope to saturate the East coast with the spirit
of mission partnership.
