	INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A record $11.7 million was
distributed to causes of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) by the Christian Church Foundation in 2001.

	Another $2 million was distributed to individuals under
income gift agreements and to non-Disciples related
charities, bringing the total distribution to $13.7
million. This is about $400,000 more than what was
distributed in 2000.

	The Rev. James P. Johnson, Foundation president, was
pleased with the distribution report, the highest in the
Foundation's 40 years of ministry. "Our ministry is to
provide increasing funding for church-related causes
through distributions. Despite a bear stock market and the
tragic events of Sept. 11, your Foundation continues to
provide growing endowment support for congregations,
regions, general units, colleges and seminaries and other
ministries of the Christian Church," said Johnson.

	Of the $11.7 million distributed to church causes, $4.3
million came from permanent funds held in trust by the
Foundation. Another $700,000 was through the maturity of
deferred gifts, and the remaining $6.6 million was spending
for ministry by Disciples entities from their funds
invested with the Foundation.

	Here is the breakdown of 2001 distributions, compared to
2000:

	* General units and recognized organizations, $5,729,611
in 2001, up from $5.47 million in 2000;

	* Local congregations, $3,397,279 in 2001, up from $3.09
million in 2000;
Regions, $1,321,645 in 2001, up from $1.25 million in 2000;

	* Higher education, $412,209, down from $846,900;

	* Basic Mission Finance, $817,081 in 2001, up from
$797,015 in 2000;

	* Individuals and non-Disciples charities, $1.91 million,
up from $1.3 million in 1999.

	At the end of 2001, the Foundation was responsible for
$251.4 million of the church's money, up slightly from
$250.3 million at the end of 2000.

	The Christian Church Foundation is one of the general
units of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Its
ministry focuses on helping Disciples make planned gifts to
benefit their favorite causes of the church and providing
an investment service to Disciples entities with permanent
funds.
