Presbyterian Men to gather for annual conference in New York
April 19-21 event will explore 'forgiveness' theme
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE - Appropriately set in New York City, the 2002 Annual Gathering of Presbyterian Men will explore the theme "Forgive As We Are Forgiven." The gathering is set for April 19-21 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near La Guardia Airport.
"This phrase from the Lord's Prayer means so much more to all of us since the tragedy on 9/11," said Allen L. Robinson, president of Presbyterian Men in New York City Presbytery, who are hosting the conference.
"This conference promises to be an especially uplifting experience, given the setting and circumstances," added the Rev. James F. Reese, interim executive for the presbytery.
For the first time in many years, the conference will feature keynote addresses by two General Assembly moderators: the Rev. Syngman Rhee (2000) and the Rev. Jack Rogers (2001).
They will be joined as featured speakers by two New York-area leaders: the Rev. Tom Tewell, pastor of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, and the Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn.
The conference will also include more than a dozen workshops addressing various aspects of the theme and a number of tours of the sights and sounds of the Big Apple.
The conference is co-sponsored by the National Council of Presbyterian Men and the Office of Men's Ministries in the Congregational Ministries Division in Louisville.
