BONN RESIGNS AS BIENNIAL MEETING PLANNING COORDINATOR
Linda Bonn, who has served as Biennial Meeting
planning coordinator for American Baptist Churches USA,
has resigned that position effective April 19, 2002. She
has announced her intention to join her husband, James
Bonn, in retirement.
Bonn directed all programmatic planning for the
denomination's national biennial gathering in Providence,
R.I. in 2001 and has had the same responsibilities for the
Biennial Meeting to be held in June 2003 in Richmond, Va.
She has led a Staff Advisory Group in assisting Biennial
Program Committees in their work.
Bonn has had extensive experience in planning for
denominational meetings. As director of Special Services
for American Baptist Churches USA from 1995 to 1999 she
was responsible for the arrangement of facilities and
administrative support for Biennial Meetings, as well for
gatherings of the American Baptist General Board and
other bodies. She also supervised meeting planning and
other administrative functions at the American Baptist
Churches Mission Center in Valley Forge, Pa. She
previously had served as consultant to Biennial Program
Committees for four Biennial Meetings.
Bonn frequently has collaborated with her
husband in designing and implementing worship for
denominational meetings and conferences.
Prior to joining the national staff Bonn ministered
for more than 20 years full time with two American Baptist
congregations, focusing her work in worship, music,
education, women's ministries and administration.
"In all that she has done to facilitate the planning
of American Baptist meetings, Linda Bonn has brought an
admirable attention to detail and a sensitivity to and
appreciation of the diverse American Baptist family," said
American Baptist Churches USA General Secretary the
Rev. A. Roy Medley. "Her efforts have helped engender in
our gatherings an ongoing atmosphere of fellowship and
worshipful work. We will miss her very much, but pray
that God's every blessing will be with her and Jim in
retirement."
To continue planning for the Biennial Meeting in
Richmond, Richard Schramm, deputy general secretary for
communication, will serve as Biennial Meeting planning
coordinator. He will facilitate both the work of the Staff
Advisory Group and the undertaking of certain Biennial
Meeting responsibilities by current Office of the General
Secretary staff.
