'Judas' is topic of online chat
Author Kim Paffenroth will join book discussion on April 3
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE - PresbyNet, the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s computer communication network, will host a "live chat" on April 3 with Kim Paffenroth, author of Judas: Images of the Lost Disciple.
Paffenroth's book, published by Westminster John Knox Press, examines the evolving image of the most infamous traitor in the history of Western civilization. It discusses various depictions of Judas through the ages - as effete intellectual, jealous lover, greedy scoundrel, misguided patriot, doomed hero, victim of despair, God's misunderstood messenger and agent.
Paffenroth's book has been the focus of a discussion group on PresbyNet through the month of March. The one-hour "chat" with Paffenroth will close the monthlong converation. Anyone interested in reflecting on Judas' life is welcome to join in; to do so, visit http://presbynet.ecunet.org/topic/judas.
Paffenroth is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Iona College and one of several theologians who will be appearing on "Judas: Traitor or Friend?" - a special airing on The History Channel April 2 (8:00 pm), April 3 (12:00 am), and April 7 (12:00 pm).
PresbyNet is a membership discussion service that recently added live chat as one of its features. A limited membership is available free. Full membership in PresbyNet costs $17.95 per year.
