ACNS 2954 - PRIMATES' MEETING - 13 April 2002
HRH Duke of Kent to open new wing of International Study Centre in the
presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury
HRH the Duke of Kent will open the residential wing of the International
Study Centre at Canterbury Cathedral on Tuesday, 16th April 2002 at 2.15 pm
in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and 34 other Archbishops
from around the world. The Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Mr Allan Willettt, and
the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Fred Whitemore, will also be
present. The Duke will be invited to open the building by the Dean of
Canterbury, the Very Revd Robert Willis, and the Cathedral Choristers will
sing before and after the unveiling of the stone that will record the event.
Other guests will include: Sir William Whitfield (the architect of the
International Study Centre); local Councillors; the Vice Chancellor of the
University of Kent and the Principal of Canterbury Christchurch University
College; the former Dean of Canterbury (the Very Revd Dr John Simpson); and
the former Governor of the Bank of England (Lord Kingsdown).
Members of the Press are invited to join the ceremony. Because of security
for the Primates' Meeting, all representatives will be required to show an
official Press Pass. Please contact Jane Boucher on 01227 865281 or
Christopher Robinson on 01227 865282 by midday on Monday, 15th April 2002 if
you wish to send a representative to the Opening ceremony.

Notes to Editors
1 Members of the Press must be at the entrance to the International Study
Centre at 2.00 pm on the 16th April for verification of identity. I regret
that no latecomers will be admitted.
