'Protestant Hour' becomes 'Day 1,' adds television program
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE - On July 7, the Protestant Hour - a staple on religious radio for more than 50 years - will become Day 1.
At the same time, the four-denomination partnership that produces Protestant Hour will roll out a half-hour television show of the same name on the Hallmark Channel. The television show will air as part of Hallmark's "America at Worship" series, Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
A fifth sponsor - the United Church of Christ - will join the four churches that have sponsored the Protestant Hour for 57 years - the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the United Methodist Church.
Both shows will feature sermons by pastors from the five denominations. The first Presbyterian to be featured will be the Rev. Vic Pentz, pastor of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. The television show will also feature panel discussions by representatives of each church examining the Scripture passage from the sermon.
"Partnership with the Day 1 producers ensures that Faith & Values Media's Sunday worship presence will bring viewers the richest variety of inspiration, prayer and preaching to be found anywhere on Sunday morning television," said Edward J. Murray, president and CEO of Faith & Values Media, which is helping to produce both shows.
