INDIANAPOLIS The Week of Compassion office offers each
Disciples
congregation a complimentary copy of a new interfaith
hunger study series.
This year the U.S. federal welfare programs will be
authorized to make
decisions about nutrition programs that will affect hungry
and poor people for
years to come. Hunger No More: Decisions 2002 is a new
study series that
features a faith-based approach to hunger policies in the
United States. It is
published through a unique cooperative effort by Bread for
the World, Disciples of
Christ and its partners in the U.S. National Council of
Churches, the Christian
Reformed Churches, MAZON: a Jewish Response to Hunger and
the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops.
According to Johnny Wray, Director of Week of Compassion,
the series includes
"biblical stories and saying that provide a balanced,
fact-and-faith-based
approach to the pros and cons of vital hunger policies."
Hunger No More contains a six-session leader's guide for
adults and youth,
hunger learning resources for children (K-6) with puzzles,
games and activities,
plus six fact sheets to be used in newsletters and as
study-group handouts. Each
session is biblically based. This hunger resources is
designed to be used with
study groups, Sunday school classes, women's, men's and
youth groups, social
ministry committees and interfaith discussions.
Each Disciples congregation can obtain a complimentary copy
of Hunger No
More through the Week of Compassion office. Make your
request known to
Elaine at 317-713-2442 or by e-mail at
ecleveland@cfc.disciples.org. Hunger No
More is also available online as downloadable PDF files
