No sex before marriage? Nobody could follow that old rule any
more! But, 700 junior and senior high school students assembled
to swear an oath to wait for true love, and to declare their
intention to hold off sexual intercourse until after the
wedding. They were led by speech and drama, and in the end
stood, raised their right hands, and took a pledge to holy
living.
The event was held at Hsin-tien Covenant Church a week ago.
It focused on helping young people to understand the
psychological, emotional and physical values of sexual abstinence
before marriage. They were encouraged to postpone sexual
intercourse until united with the companion that God will prepare
for them in marriage.
The Rev. Mr. Chang Mao-song, pastor of the church, said that
youthful lust burns as hot as the fires of hell. He encouraged
them during their youth to be brave giants of morality, so as to
be better able to counter worldly temptation and obtain blessing.

The dramas featured "boyfriend-girlfriend" situations. In one
skit, the boy had the mistaken impression that ending a girl's
chastity would make him a "man among men." His girlfriend was
not inclined to engage in premarital sexual activity, and
exemplified the struggle to remain physically pure. In the end
she still was determined to resist his demands.
A young married couple were next to speak. They told how they
had taken the true love waits pledge and testified to the
blessing that they enjoyed in their lives.
At the climactic moment, Rev. Chang led the youth in a pledge
partner whom God will prepare; avoid places of sex related
amusements; refuse to look at pornographic books, magazines,
posters, CD's, tapes and web sites; and listen to parents',
teachers' and counselors' advice.
