ACNS 2988 - LAMBETH PALACE - 23 May 2002
Archbishop to honour First Lady of Egypt
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, made a special presentation
to Her Excellency Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak, in honour of her charitable work, and support of the Episcopal
Church and inter faith relations in Egypt. The presentation took place on
Friday 17 May at Lambeth Palace in the presence of an invited audience.
Dr Carey said, "I am delighted to be able to make this presentation to Her
Excellency today. Mrs Mubarak has been dedicated and committed to many
charitable projects, especially child care and education throughout Egypt
over many years. She has firmly supported the work of the Episcopal Church
in this area and has been in the forefront of encouraging inter faith
relations."
The Archbishop presented Mrs Mubarak with a specially engraved silver plate.
