Peruvian Adventists Celebrate Church Growth
Rasp, Peru - Seventh-day Adventists in Peru are
celebrating a period of unprecedented church growth in
their country. Church leaders have reported that more
than 10,000 new believers were baptized between
January and the end of March this year.
Melchor Ferreyra, president of the church in Peru, cites
the commitment of pastors to evangelism as one of
the key factors in the increase. "Integrated evangelism
in Peru is a reality," he says, referring to a plan
adopted by the church in Peru that encourages every
Adventist administrator, pastor, department,
institution, and church to play a part in evangelism.
Ministerial director Barito Lazo says the current focus is
now on major urban areas in Peru, where the goal
is to establish a permanent Adventist presence in each
of these centers. Bible instructors are currently
working in Peru's cities, setting up small Bible study
groups in preparation for an upcoming evangelistic
series. [Editor Samuel Saito for ASN, ANN and APD]
