Cuban church's 'el maestro' to lead Ghost Ranch fete
Rene Castellanos will blend biblical and theological studies with dancing
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE - Legendary Cuban Presbyterian theologian Rene Castellanos - who may be even better known for his Cuban folk-dancing skills - will lead a seminar at Ghost Ranch July 1-8 entitled "Bible and Church Through a Cuban Lens."
Castellanos, 87, is professor of biblical interpretation (and international folk dance) at the Evangelical Seminary in Matanzas, Cuba. His seminar will include daily discussions of the interrelationships between life, church and society in contemporary Cuba. And, inevitably when the man Cuban Presbyterians call simply "el maestro" is involved, evenings will be filled with Cuban music and folk-dancing.
Castellanos' visit is sponsored by the Mission to the USA Program of the Worldwide Ministries Division in Louisville. His itinerary also includes attendance at the upcoming 214th General Assembly in Columbus, OH; leadership of the Global Village Event of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies; and visits to Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, IA, and Lyndhurst (OH) Community Presbyterian Church - congregations in partnership with the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Cuba.
For registration information concerning the Ghost Ranch seminar, contact Ghost Ranch, HC 77 Box 11, Abiquiu NM 87510; Phone (505) 685?4333; Fax (505) 685?4519; or online at www.ghostranch.org.
