Moderator condemns bus bombing in Israel
by John Filiatreau
COLUMBUS, OH - The moderator of the 214th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) yesterday condemned the suicide bombing that killed 19 people and injured at least 50 Tuesday morning on a crowded city bus in Jerusalem.
The Rev. Fahed Abu-Akel deplored the attack and said he is "praying for the injured Israelis and for the families of those who died."
He urged all Presbyterians to join him in praying for "a healing between the Israeli Jewish people and the Palestinian Arabs."
The Islamic group Hamas claimed responsibility for the rush-hour blast, according to CNN.
Abu-Akel, a Palestinian-American minister from Atlanta, was elected moderator on June 16 during the current national legislative meeting of the PC(USA).
