ABCUSA: Milton Owens, Well-Known Denominational Leader, Dies

American Baptist News Service (7/3/02)--Word has been received of the death
yesterday of the Rev. Dr. Milton E. Owens Jr., well-known American Baptist
leader, consultant and author who served more than 30 years in a number of
staff positions with American Baptist Churches USA.

Most recently he was a consultant to National Ministries on issues related
to aging.  He previously had been director of Housing for the Elderly and
executive director of the American Baptist Homes and Hospitals Association.

Owens also served from 1984-1987 as associate general secretary for regional
operations in the Office of the General Secretary, later working as a
consultant for local, regional and national organizations within American
Baptist Churches USA and as interim pastor at Second Baptist Church in
Coatesville, Pa.

 From 1967-1983 Owens was a staff member of American Baptist Educational
Youth.

and Business, and program associate in the Department of Ministry with
Ministries, where he was manager of special projects, director of product

He was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Boy Scouts of
America, the Association for Retarded Citizens and the American Cancer
Society.

He is survived by his wife, Alma, two sons and a daughter.  Condolences may
be sent to the family at P.O. Box 556, Downingtown, PA 19335-0556.  Details
on services are incomplete at present.
