The Seven Stars Presbytery of the Presbyterian
Church in Taiwan (PCT), as part of its celebration
of 130 years of mission in the nation's Northern
areas, is sponsoring a short term mission trip
from August 7 to 14. Trip participants will
reinforce the PCT's mission work among the Aka
people in Northern Thailand.
The Rev. Tony Lo, pastor of Ta-an
Presbyterian Church in Taipei, says, "We go
forth in the same spirit as our founder, the Rev.
George Leslie Mackay, who came to Taiwan 130
years ago."
The mission among the Aka was established by
the PCT's Northern Synod with an emphasis on
training youth to serve God in their mountain
homeland. The mission trip group will spend two
days in at the mission center and four in
aiding mountain residents. They will experience
both urban and rural conditions faced daily by
the Aka.
Rev. Lo says that of the twelve spaces
available on the team, only 8 have been filled
to date. They still need some youth who have
overseas mission and medical technology experience.
According to his estimate, the state of
development in Northern Thailand is similar to
Taiwan 2 or 3 decades ago. Medical facilities
are backward, so medical staff members are
especially important.
