Synod Web site adds comment, locator features

The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod's Web site now offers two new features
-- an "LCMS Site Feedback" form has been added to major pages to encourage
visitor feedback, and new directory locators for congregations, church
workers and schools are now online under the "Directories" link.

The feedback form gives visitors an opportunity to rate the LCMS Web site on
layout, ease of navigation and usefulness of content.  Each major page
throughout the site now has a feedback button in the upper-right corner of
the page.

"The feedback we gather will help us in the planning of a major redesign of
the site," said David G. Berner, director of the Synod's Information
Services Department.

The new locators have several new components, including:

-- cross-functional linking between the directories for congregations,
church workers and schools.  For example, when an ordained minister's
profile information is displayed, there will be a direct link to the
congregation he serves.  Or when a congregation's contact information is
displayed, there is a direct link to any schools affiliated with that
congregation.

-- data from the Office of Rosters and Statistics, updated weekly.

-- downloadable graphs and statistics for all congregations.

-- additional information such as circuit affiliation, worship-service times
and staff listings.

The locator update project was initiated in conjunction with a new database
system implemented by the Rosters office.

The Synod's Web site also features several new items that may be accessed at
http://www.lcms.org/whatsnew.html:

-- The National Contract Program, which offers LCMS entities price
agreements for products and services through selected vendors, has been
redesigned.

-- A list of LCMS district conventions in 2003 is available on the Calendar
of Events page.

-- Portions of the July issue of "The Lutheran Witness" are now online in
PDF format.

-- The July issues of "Harvest News" and "Global Links and Good News from
the Field" are available from LCMS World Mission.
