ELCA PASTOR FEATURED ON 'DAY 1' RADIO, TV BROADCAST

     CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. Roy T. Lloyd, a pastor of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and also a senior
manager for media relations for the American Bible Society, will
be featured Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1 and Dec. 29 on "Day 1,"
formerly known as "The Protestant Hour," a nationally broadcast
radio program.
     Lloyd, who lives in Ridgefield, Conn., has spent 30 years in
ecumenical communication and has received numerous awards
for his work. For 25 years he was broadcast news director and
associate director of electronic media for the National Council of
Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (NCC). He has been a religion
news reporter for CBS Radio Network and Associated Press Radio
and a commentator for WINS-AM in New York City. He also
spent a year as a teacher at the American University in Beirut,
Lebanon.
     Lloyd also served as a media officer for the trip to Belgrade,
Yugoslavia, by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and former NCC president
Joan Brown Campbell to gain the release of American soldiers
imprisoned by the Milosevic regime. He has appeared on national
television with Archbishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa, to talk
about forgiveness and the work of the International Forgiveness
Institute, and he helped develop http://www.forgivenessinstitute.org
on the Web.
     In two of his sermons, Lloyd preaches on parables from the
Gospel of Matthew. "We've been given a great task," he says, "to live
in harmony, to weep with the mournful, to laugh with the joyful, to not
be conceited. Especially, we are called to be righteous, but not
self-righteous. We are humble."
     Excerpts from his sermons will be included in a television
version of  "Day 1" on the Hallmark Channel's "America at Worship,"
airing at 9 a.m (ET/PT) Sundays.
     "Day 1" has been broadcast as "The Protestant Hour" every
week since 1945.  It has won numerous awards including the George
Foster Peabody Award for broadcast excellence. It is produced
cooperatively by the ELCA, the Episcopal Media Center, the United
Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the
United Church of Christ.
     "Day 1" broadcasts are also accessible via streaming audio
