American Baptist News Service (10/8/02)--The Rev. Brenda R. Halliburton has
been named director of Black Church Ministries for American Baptist National
Ministries, effective immediately. Halliburton is serving as a bridge
between National Ministries and Black American Baptist congregations,
assisting churches across the country with ministry challenges and
opportunities, and facilitating the sharing of their insights, both
nationally and among regions.
"As an organization that values diversity we've had a missing piece," said
the Rev. Dr. David C. Laubach, National Ministries' associate executive
director for Congregational and Evangelistic Ministries. "This new position
reflects the wholeness we seek to bring to our team charged with doing
intercultural ministries," he noted.
Halliburton joined National Ministries' staff in 1992 and most recently
served as associate director of Evangelism.
The Rev. David S. Young concluded his work as congregational transformation
specialist on Sept. 30. Young helped to establish Rekindle!, a virtual
institute for church renewal, which was launched in 2001 with 130
participants. Young joined National Ministries in 2000.
The Rev. Dr. Harry Riggs II, National Ministries' director of Congregational
Transformation, has assumed responsibility for Rekindle!, continuing
National Ministries' commitments to the classes that began in 2001 and 2002.
Riggs also will work with the ongoing Small Church Renewal pilot projects.
The Rev. Dr. Richard D. Sutton, National Ministries' director of Small
Church Ministries, became acting director of Community-based Ministries on
Oct. 1. He will conclude his work as director of Family Life Ministries on
Dec. 31, when that position is eliminated.
