CARLINVILLE, IL - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on June 7 for the new
Demuzio Campus Center at Blackburn College. The 30,000-square-foot facility
was named for Sen. Vince Demuzio, D-IL, a member of the school's board of
trustees. It houses Blackburn's main dining area, a fitness area, a game
room, a study lounge, a campus store and the college post office.

WOOSTER, OH - Students are increasingly using email in searching out a
college, according to a survey of 480 first-year students at The College of
Wooster. Seventy-five percent said they'd used email to communicate with
colleges during their searches, up from 38 percent five years ago. Half said
they'd filed electronic applications, a 100 percent increase in three years.

MEMPHIS, TN - Rhodes College and the National Child Identification Program
are distributing free child-identification kits in a program started in 1997
by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to help protect American
children. The program's inkless fingerprint ID kit gives parents and
guardians a clean, convenient way to record ID information to be provided to
authorities if the child is abducted or runs away. Free kits were distributed
most recently during a home football game on Oct. 5.

ST. PAUL, MN - A new book by a visiting professor at Macalester College
explores how changes in the architecture of Protestant churches in the late
19th century led to changes in worship styles and mission. Jeanne Halgren
Kilde, who teaches religious studies, focuses on the development of
theatre-style auditorium churches in When Church Became Theatre: The
Transformation of Evangelical Architecture and Worship in Nineteenth-Century
America (Oxford University Press). The design change, Kilde says, led to a
more "consumer-oriented," participatory style of worship.
