All 10 CUS schools named to best' list
For the second year in a row, all 10 Missouri Synod colleges and
universities are included in the top ranks of the 3U.S News and World
Report2 listings of "America's Best Colleges."
Last year was the first time that the top-ranking lists included the 10
Synod schools that make up the Concordia University System (CUS).
Each year, the magazine compiles the "academic ranking of every single
college in the country," said Rich Folkers, director of media relations for
the magazine.
3U.S News and World Report2 announced its 2003 rankings in mid September,
and issued a special edition of the magazine that gives the top rankings in
a number of categories. The top rankings also are on the periodical's Web
site, http://www.usnews.com.
The CUS schools are ranked in the categories "Best Universities -- Master's
(By Region)" and "Best Comprehensive Colleges -- Bachelor's (By Region)."
Each category is divided into four "tiers," with tier one representing the
highest scores.
Concordia University, Seward, Neb., is the only CUS school in a tier-one
ranking for 2002. Last year, Concordia University, River Forest, Ill., was
listed with tier-one schools.
The Concordias listed in tier two of their categories are those at River
Forest; Mequon, Wis.; Bronxville, N.Y.; Irvine, Calif.; Ann Arbor, Mich.;
and St. Paul, Minn. Tier-three schools in the ranking are Concordia
University, Portland, Ore., and Concordia University , Austin,
Texas. Concordia College, Selma, Ala., is in the tier-four ranking.
"National recognition of all 10 colleges and universities of the Synod
these two years is wonderful," said Dr. William F. Meyer, executive
director of the LCMS Board for Higher Education and CUS president. "Our
heritage of Lutheran higher education continues to be a source of great
pride for the Synod, as these schools keep providing graduates for service
to the church and the world."
