Registration opens tomorrow for LWML convention

Registration opens March 1 for the 30th biennial convention of the Lutheran
Women's Missionary League, to be held June 19-22 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Theme of the four-day convention is "Lord of My Heart ... Our Hope."

Keynote speaker will be Dr. Kay Orr, the first woman governor of Nebraska,
who served from 1987 to 1991.  Orr is a member of Christ Lutheran Church,
Lincoln, Neb.

Worship leaders include Synod President Gerald Kieschnick; Dr. David
Bernthal, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Fla.; Rev. Daniel
Heuer, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Neb.; and Dr. Thomas
Zehnder, former president of the Synod's Florida-Georgia District.

Bible studies will be led by Dr. William Diekelman, president of the Synod's
Oklahoma District, and Rev. David Callies, president of the Mid-South
District.

Mission speakers will be Rev. Robert Roegner, executive director of LCMS
World Mission; Dr. Jotham Johann Jhang, executive director of the Center for
Asian Missions and Evangelism, Alexandria, Va.; and Alice Brauer, long-time
missionary to India.

Leading music at the convention will be Rev. Dien Taylor, pastor of Redeemer
Evangelical Lutheran Church, New York.

Entertainment will include a performance by LaDonna Gatlin, sister of
country music's Gatlin Brothers, and a revue of songs, Indian dancing and
"trick roping" by local artists.

Other activities include "Memories of the Heart" luncheons with special
speakers, a "Mission Pledge Walk" and "servant events."  Child care and
youth activities also are available during the convention for an additional
fee.

Registration is $145 by May 20, or $170 after that date; children under age
18 are free.  Housing is available at various hotels at special convention
rates of from $55 to $120 per night.
