	Worship sends field-test material,
	sets Sept. 2 deadline for evaluations

	The Synods Commission on Worship is sending a booklet of
field-test material for the proposed new Synod hymnal to all
congregations this month, asking them to return evaluation forms by a
Sept. 2 postmark date.

	Included in the 116-page booklet are:

	* representative samples of proposed new hymns;

	* revisions of Matins and the Divine Service from the Synods
Hymnal Supplement 98;

	* a new Service of Prayer and Preaching; and

	* revised and new rites for the Agenda.

	This is the commissions second major mailing of hymnal
field-test material. The first mailing last year included a 108-page
booklet and two CDs with musical settings proposed for the hymnal.

	Dr. Paul Grime, executive director of the commission and project
director for the Synods Lutheran Hymnal Project, said comments and
suggestions from evaluations of the first field test last year were
invaluable to the committees preparing material for the hymnal.

	Field testing gives pastors, church musicians and
congregational members the opportunity to see how the hymnal is being
developed and to share with us their thoughtful comments, Grime said.
The commission encourages everyone to take the time to review the
field-test material and complete the substantial evaluation.

	All of the hymnal field-test material, including the material in
this months mailing, is on the Commission on Worships Web site,
worship.lcms.org <http://worship.lcms.org>  .

	The new hymnal is due for publication in 2006, provided it is
approved by next years Synod convention.
