	Ahlersmeyer accepts
	interim presidency
	of Concordia, Ann Arbor

Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer of Rocky River, Ohio, has accepted the
call to be interim president of Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Mich.
(CUAA). He will begin work in the position Aug. 1.

With a two-year commitment as interim president, he will be
installed at the university Sept. 3.

Ahlersmeyer, 49, has been executive director of the Cleveland
Lutheran High School Association since 1995. He previously served as
pastor of Synod congregations in Ohio, California and Florida.

A 1979 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne,
Ahlersmeyer earned a Ph.D. in interpersonal and public communication in
1989 from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.

He has taught at the high-school and college levels, served as a
consultant to the Lutheran Education Association, and was on the Synods
Board for Communication Services from 1986 to 1995.

Since October 2001, Ahlersmeyer has spearheaded a fund-raising
campaign for Lutheran High School West, in Rocky River, which has
generated $6.1 million toward a $7.2 million goal.

Ahlersmeyer has been a member of the CUAA board of regents for
the past five years -- a membership he now relinquishes as interim
president.

Dr. James Koerschen retired from the Concordia, Ann Arbor,
presidency Jan. 1. For several months after that, financial problems for
the school postponed the search for an interim president.

A $10.7 million loan to CUAA from the LCMS Michigan District
Church Extension Fund, announced in April, cleared the way for the
search for an interim president to begin, according to Dr. William F.
Meyer, executive director of the Synods Board for Higher Education.

In June, the LCMS Michigan and Indiana District conventions
passed resolutions of support for the university.

Ive accepted this call because of my appreciation of
Concordias past contributions to the church and my excitement about
what God can and will do through this schools ministry, Ahlersmeyer
said. This university has great potential.

Tom Ahlersmeyer brings exactly the kind of leadership Concordia
University ... needs at this juncture in its 40-year history, said
Charlie Caciano, the universitys chief operating officer and chief
financial officer of the Concordia University System. Tom has an
excellent background in fund raising, is an experienced manager and
effective leader, and ... he brings a built-in passion for taking the
university to the next level.

LCMS Michigan District President C. William Hoseman, who also is
a member of the CUAA board of regents, said, From both perspectives, we
welcome Tom and look forward to Gods blessings through his leadership
and to developing mutually supportive working relationships for the
future of Concordia University and Christian higher education in our
region.
