Dear LCMSNOTES Subscriber:
The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod is mentioned significantly
in a USA TODAY newspaper story today (Wednesday, Sept. 3) on the use of
hymnals in worship.
The story appears on Page 6 in the "Life" section. An online
version (sans photos and sidebars) can be seen at
www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20030903/5464114s.htm
<http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20030903/5464114s.htm>
LCMS sources quoted in the story include Dr. David Smith, pastor
of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Des Peres [Mo.]; Rev. Stephen Hower,
pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellisville, Mo.; and especially
Dr. Paul Grime, executive director of the Synod's Commission on Worship.
The thrust of the story, written by USA TODAY religion editor
Cathy Grossman, is a discussion on how many congregations are joining
the trend to project their hymns, liturgies and lessons on video screens
while others hold to the tradition of using hymnals.
The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod will introduce a new hymnal,
seven years in the making, in 2006.
Thank you.
