September 11 Observances

[ACNS Source: Diocese of New York] The churches, congregations and
organizations of the Episcopal Diocese of New York will be observing the
second anniversary of the September 11 tragedy with services, lectures, and
moments of silence.

Here's a partial list of the observances in the diocese, with events
starting on September 10 through September 14.

On September 10:

At St. Paul's Chapel, a Silent Vigil begins 8 pm on September 10 and ends 8
am on September 11.

The Church of the Holy Trinity, Manhattan, has invited Mary Donovan to speak
at the Christian Education Program on Wednesday September 10 at 7.30 p.m. at
Draesel Hall on "Will the Dust Praise You?" A Eucharist will be celebrated
on Thursday September 11 at 6:30 pm.

St. Bartholomew's, Manhattan, will present the World Music for World Peace
in remembrance of victims of violence, and praying for peace at 7 pm

On September 11:

Taizi Service at St. Paul's Chapel, September 11, 8:30 am-10:45 am. Prayer
Service at noon. Silent Meditation and Exhibit Tours, 10:45am - 6 pm.

At Trinity, Wall Street: Morning Prayer at 8:15 am; Eucharist & the Laying
on of Hands at 12:05 pm; Evening Prayer at 5:15 pm. Commemorative Concert at
6:30 pm -- A free concert inaugurating the Marshal & Ogletree digital organ
replacing the organs destroyed on 9/11. The oratorio to be performed is
William Albright's Song to David.

The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine will have Prayers For The City
at 7 pm. Readings, prayers, hymns and meditative music by guests artists
will focus on the city as a place of unity, compassion, service and vision.
Following the 8:30 am and the 12:15 pm services, the names of those lost in
NYC, DC and PA will be read.

St. John's Tuckahoe plans to have the church open for prayer and ring the
bell at the time the first tower was hit and again the time the last tower
collapsed.

St. Augustine's, Croton on Hudson, will mark September 11 in two ways. At 2
pm the parish family will join in a celebration of The Holy Eucharist at a
local nursing home to which the church will bring the fixin's for a coffee
hour to share with the residents. It will be an opportunity to bring the
church community to the community of the nursing home. One of the residents
lost her son when Tower II collapsed. Later, at 7 pm, the church will have a
Healing Service and Holy Eucharist Rite II at the church.

St. Mary's, Mohegan Lake will be having Evening Prayer at 7 pm on Sept. 11
and will include a showing of "Will the Dust Praise You? Spiritual Responses
to 9/11."

Seamen's Church Institute will hold a 9 am service for staff, Board members,
and neighbors who participated in our relief effort.

St. Bartholomew's, Manhattan, at 8:30 am will hold the annual Interfaith
Service of Prayer to mark the opening of the United Nations General
Assembly. At 10:30 am, a short service created especially for young
children. At 12:05 pm, Midday Eucharist in the chapel. At 12:30 pm, An
interfaith service in the church. At 6 pm, Choral Eucharist in the church.
At 7:30 pm, Evening Service with candlelight and procession. Between regular
services: silent prayer in the church and chapels.

Incarnation, Manhattan, will offer a special Holy Eucharist in remembrance
of the tragedies at 6:30 pm.

St. Paul's, Chester, will be holding a Service of Prayer and Remembrance.

Holy Trinity, Manhattan, will have a Eucharist of Remembrance at 6:30 pm.

The Church of the Epiphany, Manhattan, will hold a Requiem Eucharist at 6 pm
to honor and remember all who were killed in the terrorist attacks on
September 11, 2001. The Reverend Stephen Harding is scheduled to preach. All
parishioners, neighbors, and residents of New York City are invited to join.

The Church of St. Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street, New York NY 10014
will hold a Service of Remembrance on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 6:30
pm.

On September 13:

St. Paul's On-the-Hill, Ossining will present at 6 p.m. "9/11 - Moving
Forward Together." In three parts: "Revelations from Ground Zero," the video
reflection (1/2 hour version) produced by the diocese, and introduced for us
by Professor Mary Donovan, on the goodness people showed each other on 9/11;
"The Goodness That Got Us Through" - personal reflections by local Ossining
residents, Christian and Muslim, on the good things and people that got them
through 9/11, and the past two years; "Jazz Reflection" - From sadness to
struggle, anger to hope, the music of many individuals brings us together in
a common sound. Presented by local jazz group "The ABC's of Jazz" (with St.
Paul's member on drums). Desserts and coffee for sale during the jazz

On September 14:

Good Shepherd, Manhattan, is planning an observance of the Second
anniversary of September 11 on Sunday, September 14, as part of our regular
11 am service. Last year, the church dedicated a plaque honoring the six
fallen firemen of the church's local firehouse, with most of the surviving
local fire fighters attending. This year there will be special music and a
special invitation extended to local fire fighters to join the church again.
