Disciples First General Minister and President, A. Dale Fiers Dies
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September, 29, 2003) -- The first general minister and 
president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Rev. A. Dale 
Fiers died Sunday, Sept. 28, at age 96.

Noted as the key architect of today's Disciples denomination, Fiers worked 
toward the uniting of congregations, agencies and church associations into 
a covenantal body.  Upon the denomination's birth in 1968, Fiers was 
elected general minister and president and served in that capacity for five
