Jan. 9 is deadline for domestic grants

To continue its domestic grant program in spite of a revenue
shortfall, LCMS World Relief and Human Care has announced changes in its
grant application process.

The fast-approaching deadline for "concept letters" -- the first
step in the new application process -- is Jan. 9.

"This fiscal year, the cash receipts of the first quarter were
not at a level allowing us to fund the domestic grants on the same
granting schedule as prior program years," said Marie Kienker, deputy
director, LCMS World Relief and Human Care. "To align our limited
resources with our strategic plan, we have revised the guidelines and
process for submitting applications to the domestic grant program."

Eligible domestic grant applicants are LCMS congregations,
districts, recognized service organizations and LCMS-sponsored
ministries. Domestic grants are awarded to help people in need by
assisting human care and self-help ministries in local communities.

In fiscal 2003, LCMS World Relief distributed $999,815 through
68 domestic grants, including a $25,000 block grant to LCMS Youth
Ministry for servant events.

Concept letters should not exceed three pages and should include
specific information about the proposed project, such as its starting
date and duration, a description of the project and the organization
that is sponsoring it, and the amount of funding needed.

A complete list of guidelines is available through the LCMS
World Relief and Human Care Web site at worldrelief.lcms.org
<http://worldrelief.lcms.org> .

Send applications to Rev. Matthew Harrison, Executive Director,
LCMS World Relief and Human Care, Domestic Grant Concept Letter Review,
1333 S. Kirkwood Rd., St. Louis, MO 63122-7295. Applicants will be
notified by Feb. 15 regarding the status of their funding requests.

For more information, contact Marie Kienker at (800) 248-1930,
Ext. 1392 or marie.kienker@lcms.org .
