JUSTICE NETWORK NAMES DIRECTOR
Ken Brooker-Langston has been named the first Director of the Disciples
Justice Action Network (DJAN). The network represents a multi-racial
group of individuals, congregations and organizations within the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) working on issues of peace and
justice.

Brooker-Langston has been a member of DJAN since its formation in 1996,
and is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ). He is a member of National City Christian Church, Washington,
D.C., and is an associate member at Pilgrimage Christian Church,
Suitland, Md. 

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE NEEDED
The Common Global Ministries Board of the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) and the United Church of Christ is seeking qualified
candidates for the position of Program Associate, Latin American and the
Caribbean Office. The position will be based in Indianapolis and is part
of the mission program of both churches. The deadline for receiving

REGIONAL MINISTER OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA-NEVADA TAKES NEW POST
Chuck Blaisdell, Regional Minister and President of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) in Northern-California/Nevada region will
leave that position on August 16. Blaisdell has accepted the call to
pastor Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Hawaii. For more

PENSION FUND NAMES DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Ruth Chavez will be the new Director of Development for the Pension
Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) starting Sept. 15.
She will lead the re-establishment of a development program for
Ministerial Relief and Assistance and other Pension Fund programs. She
has served Common Global Ministries and the Division of Overseas
Ministries for 13 years, with mission assignments in Venezuela and
Haiti. Since 2002, she has served as Program Associate for Common Global
Ministries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

DISCIPLES REPRESENTATION ON ANTI-VIOLENCE COMMITTEE
Carol Q. Cosby has been named a church representative to the US
planning committee of the "Decade to Overcome Violence" of the World
Council of Churches (WCC). Cosby was jointly appointed by the Council on
Christian Unity and the Office of Disciples Women of Disciples Home
Missions. Cosby brings years of experience to this volunteer assignment.
She has worked as staff person to the Disciples Peace Fellowship and to
the Office of Disciples Women in the area of violence against women.
Cosby will attend the US Conference of the WCC on October 4-5 in
Atlanta, where the US initiative will be launched, and will provide
communication with Disciples congregations and regions as the program
develops in the coming months. 

CBP EDITOR PASSES AWAY
Jane E. McAvoy, vice president of the editorial division of Christian
Board of Publication (CBP) and editorial director for Chalice Press,
passed away suddenly on June 24.  Prior to joining CBP on Nov. 1, McAvoy
served as interim Dean for Academic Affairs at St. Paul School of
Theology in Kansas. McAvoy had been a teacher, preacher, writer,
administrator and lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ). A memorial service was held on June 28 at North Christian
Church in Columbus, Ind.
