American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 7/25/04)--Word has been
received of the death of Maria C. Figueras on July 18 following a lengthy
battle with cancer. Figueras served as director of the Baptist Social Service
Center in Los Angeles, Calif., since 1995. The center is one of the Christian
centers related to the Neighborhood Action Program of National Ministries.

For a number of years Figueras also served as president of the Social Action
Committee of Iglesias Bautistas Hispanas del Suroeste (Hispanic Baptist
Churches of the Pacific Southwest).

Condolences may be sent to her husband, Eulises Figueras, at 1003 South Del
Mar Ave., San Gabriel, CA 91766-3032.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers a contribution may be made
in Figueras' memory to further the ministry of the Baptist Social Service
Center, 4035 Tyler Ave., El Monte, CA 91731.
