Taiwan Church News 2738, 16-22 August 2004
Reported by Yang Shu-hao. Translated and Rewritten by David Alexander

The Church and Society Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan held
its
annual fundraising Sunday on August 15th. Programme Secretary Cheng Ing-er
said the committee will continue its historical emphasis on Justice and Peace
for the remainder of 2004 with several activities centered on that theme.
These include participation in the movement to see Taiwan admitted to the
United Nations, participation in World Human Rights Day, and the Prayer for
Taiwan meeting. He especially desires that Christian sisters and brothers
ardently pray.
The Rev. Li Hsin-long from Taipei Presbytery's Church and Society Committee
said that during 2004 there has been participation in funding the February
28th Hand in Hand activity, emergency rescue, and subsidies given to the
group
that will visit the United Nations in September. Local aid has also been
given
to churches engaging in community ministry.
Rev. Li expects that each church should be involved in some form of community
service ministry, putting its roots down deep into its neighborhood and
understanding local needs. In that way it will naturally develop into a good
neighbor and have the best relations with those who pass by its doors each
day.
