American Baptist News Service (Valley Forge, Pa. 9/13/04)--The senior
colleges and universities related to American Baptist Churches USA continue
to receive prominent rankings by U.S. News and World Report.
The recent annual U.S. News print and Web assessment of institutions of
higher learning evaluates more than 1,400 four-year schools in the U.S. for
such factors as academic reputation, selectivity, faculty resources,
financial resources and graduation rate.
In the category "Best Comprehensive Colleges--Bachelor's," Linfield College,
McMinnville, Oreg. (#1, West) was among the highest-rated schools in the
country. The category focuses on schools offering undergraduate education in
the liberal arts and professional fields.
Also highly ranked in that category were Franklin College, Franklin, Ind.
(tie #19, Midwest); Keuka College, Keuka Park, N.Y. (tie #26, North);
Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, W.V. (tie #28, South); Florida Memorial
College, Miami (tie #48, South); Judson College, Elgin, Ill. (tie #53,
Midwest); Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kans. (fourth tier, Midwest); Shaw
University, Raleigh, N.C. (third tier, South); and Benedict College,
Columbia, S.C. (third tier, South)
In the category "Best Universities--Master's" (which includes schools with
undergraduate and master's-level programs), the University of Redlands,
Redlands, Calif. (tie #5, West) was ranked among the best in the U.S. Also
in this category were Eastern University, St. Davids, Pa. (third tier, North)
and the University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls, S.D. (third tier, Midwest).
Ranked in the national "Best Liberal Arts Colleges" category were: Kalamazoo
College, Kalamazoo, Mich. (tie #53 in the national top schools listing);
William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo. (third tier); and Virginia Union
University, Richmond, Va. (fourth tier).
Sixteen colleges and universities are related to American Baptist Churches
USA through National Ministries.
