ARCHBISHOP DEMETRIOS OF AMERICA APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF GREEK EDUCATION

NEW YORK - His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America has announced the
appointment of Dr. Ioannis Efthymiopoulos as director of the Department
of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

In a statement, Archbishop Demetrios said, "The appointment of Dr.
Ioannis Efthymiopoulos as director of the Department of Greek Education
is a significant event in the history of contributions of the Greek
Orthodox Archdiocese of America to Greek education and Greek culture. Dr.
Efthymiopoulos will offer valuable services based on his vast educational
experience and extensive involvement in the area of educational programs
within and outside of Greece. His immediate knowledge of the Omogeneia in
the United States is an additional qualification assuring a productive
contribution in the area of Greek education."

With the appointment of Dr. Efthymiopoulos, and the continued creative
offering of Mrs. Maria Makedon and other colleagues, the Department of
Greek Education has the potential for enhanced and dynamic work in the
vital area of Greek-American education.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Dr. Ioannis Efthymiopoulos was born in Kardamas, in Ilia. In 1968 he
concluded his university studies at the Aristotelian University of
Thessaloniki.

In 1984 he obtained a master's degree with distinction from the
Continuing Education School of the Greek Ministry of Education and
Religion and, in 1988, he earned a doctorate from the School of Sciences
of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki.

Dr. Efthymiopoulos commands extensive teaching, administrative, and
consulting experience in Greece, America, Germany and Belgium. He has
taught at the Experimental School and the Pedagogic Institute of
Thessaloniki, the Aristotelian University and the Pedagogic Academy of
Thessaloniki, and at various high schools.

Until recently, Dr. Efthymiopoulos was educational advisor of the
Pedagogical Institute at the Regional Administration of Primary and
Secondary Education of Central Macedonia.

From November 1998 until September 2002 he served as consul for
Educational Affairs at the Education Office at the Consulate General of
Greece in Chicago. During his service in the United States, Dr.
Efthymiopoulos, in cooperation with the Diocese of Chicago, organized
seminars for parochial school teachers in many communities and became
familiar with the Greek-American educational system.

In the years 1994-98 he served as educational advisor for secondary
education in the prefectures of Pella and Imathia and in 1989-94 as head
of the Greek Department of the European School in Brussels.

In 1981-82, with a scholarship from Goethe Institute, he supervised Greek
students in German schools in Munich, and between 1978-81 he headed the
administration office for secondary education in Thessaloniki.

Dr. Efthymiopoulos and his wife, Athanasia Proiou Efthymiopoulou, have
two adult children, one in Chicago and the other in Rome.
