New UMC.org feature offers full coverage of delegation visit to Asia

Jan. 14, 2005

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - On Jan. 14, UMC.org, the official Web site of
the United Methodist Church, launched a new online feature package
offering immediate reports from a delegation of mission and
communication leaders who recently arrived in Indonesia.

The delegation, which is visiting both northern and southern Sumatra,
including the cities of Medan and Banda Aceh, took 100,000 doses of
antibiotics and anti-diarrhea medicine for use in the recovery.

Accessible from UMC.org's home page, the Indonesia delegation feature
includes print, photo and video reports provided by a team of reporters
from United Methodist Communications. The Rev. Larry Hollon, head of
UMCom, is also sharing his personal accounts of the trip through his
Weblog as part of the reporting.

Following the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia on Dec. 26, leaders
from UMCom, United Methodist Committee on Relief and the Board of Global
Ministries quickly responded by offering www.MethodistRelief.org, an
online giving opportunity supporting UMCOR's tsunami relief effort.
Links to MethodistRelief.org, all leadership resources supporting the
denomination's relief efforts and United Methodist News Service are
included as part of UMC.org's Indonesia delegation feature package.

In addition to Hollon, the delegation includes Bishop Joel N. Martinez
of San Antonio, president of the mission board; the Rev. Randy R. Day,
chief executive of the denomination's Board of Global Ministries; Kyung
Za Yim, a director and president of the Women's Division; the Rev. Paul
Dirdak, director of UMCOR; the Rev. David Wu, an Asian specialist with
the mission agency; the Rev. Henry Leono, a pastor in Willingboro, N.J.,
who is a native of Indonesia; Linda Bloom, a reporter with United
Methodist News Service; and Mike DuBose, a photographer with United
Methodist Communications.
