Los Angeles -- Dr. Cindi Love began her new duties as Executive Director for
the international movement of Metropolitan Community Churches this week.
Founded in 1968, MCC is the world's largest and oldest faith community with
a primary, affirming ministry to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender
persons. The MCC movement includes more than 43,000 members and adherents
in
23 countries around the globe.
Dr. Cindi Love brings a wide range of leadership, management and
organizational experience to her new role as MCC's Executive Director. She
is the former
Executive Dean of Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas. She previously served
as Senior Executive of The Toro Company, and was the founder of Ecommune, a
provider of consulting services for Fortune 500 companies and technology
ventures in Israel.
She was CEO and Founder of several corporations, including C.H. Love & Co.,
School Vision of Texas, Network in a Box, Apple Education Assistance Network,
New Mexico Information Systems, Integration Control Systems & Services, and
is a past faculty member of Hardin-Simmons University.
Dr. Love holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Abilene Christian
University, a Master of Arts from Louisiana Tech, and a Doctorate in
Educational
Administration from Texas Tech University. She is a licensed MCC
clergyperson and educational diagnostician.
In 1990, Cindi Love was named one of the "Top 50 Entrepreneurs" in North
America by Inc. Magazine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and
she
has served on two advisory commissions for the Texas Legislature.
"I'm pleased that Dr. Cindi Love has accepted the call to serve as Executive
Director of Metropolitan Community Churches," said the Reverend Dr. Troy D.
Perry, Founder and Moderator of MCC. "Cindi's organizational expertise,
management background, and deep spiritual values will help lead MCC into a
new
chapter of mission and ministry."
The MCC Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and
management of the organization including all programs, fundraising, and
business operations. Currently, MCC's headquarters budget exceeds $3 million
(US)
and local MCC congregations have a combined annual budget in excess of $21
million (US).
Love succeeds Kerry Lobel, who served as Interim Executive Director of
Metropolitan Community Churches during 2004.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON DR. LOVE:
Cindi offers an unusual -- and, for MCC, fortuitous -- combination of
experience in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
Her career can be divided into three key phases.
Entrepreneurial Phase. In 1981, Cindi was a recently divorced single mother
of two children. Through sheer force of will and innate brilliance, she
rose from homemaker and speech therapist to be named one of North America's
Top
50 Entrepreneurs according to Inc. Magazine.
Over a period of 15 years, Cindi founded eight companies. One became an
Inc. 500 Company (No. 73 on the list), and another grew so prosperous it was
acquired by Toro, a Fortune 500 Company. During this entrepreneurial phase
of
her career, Cindi demonstrated an uncanny ability to make something out of
nothing -- literally to start with an idea and turn it into a successful
working
system. For example, Cindi founded a company called School Vision of Texas,
and turned it into the largest Apple Education Sales Agency in the United
States with $161 million in sales in 1993. In another instance, Cindi
acquired
three Computerland franchises which were in bankruptcy and rolled them into
a
profitable computer service business. This ability to identify weaknesses in
an operating system and craft successful solutions is something MCC
desperately needs on the business side of its operations.
Corporate Phase. In 1996, Cindi sold her then leading company, Integration
Control Systems and Services, Inc. (a global provider of system integration
services and support for golf courses), to the Toro Company and went to work
for them. As a senior executive at Toro, Cindi demonstrated her ability to
work effectively as part of a team in an already established, successful
enterprise. Over the next five years, Cindi led Toro's successful effort to
create
a world-wide Intranet service network for over 5,000 distributors and
dealers in 85 countries. This period of service gave Cindi substantial
exposure to
the culture of Fortune 500 American business -- and even more importantly,
to many cultures outside the United States.
Nonprofit Phase. At the end of 2001, Cindi left Toro to found Ecommune and
to become Executive Dean of Corporate and Continuing Education at Brookhaven
College, which serves 31,000 credit and non-credit students each year in
Dallas County, Texas. In 2002, Brookhaven was named the 9th fastest growing
comprehensive community college in the United States. There, Cindi manages a
multimillion dollar budget and leads the division of the college responsible
for
providing continuing education opportunities for adults. Cindi's division of
Brookhaven specializes in meeting the needs of an immigrant segment of the
Dallas County population. Cindi's students come from more than 100 different
countries; half of them do not speak English as their primary language.
Cindi has gained significant additional experience with the management
issues of nonprofit organizations through her service on boards and
committees at
Goodwill Industries, the Better Business Bureau, Abilene Chamber of
Commerce,
and the Kenley School for Exceptional Children, Big Country AIDS Resources,
Abilene Community AIDS Project, Minnesota AIDS Project, OutFront Minnesota
and The Experience. She is a newly elected member of the Board of the Turtle
Creek Chorale, the world famous gay men's chorus.
