World Alliance of Reformed Churches' Easter Message
The power of the suffering love of Jesus Christ continues to transform the
world, leaders of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) said in
their annual Easter message to member churches.
Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick, president of WARC, and Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi,
general secretary of WARC, said in a message Tuesday March 22 that while
the WARC family of churches minister in contexts where many experience
hopelessness, there is hope in the suffering love of Christ that inspires
the work of many in the church.
They reminded WARC member churches that when the first disciples of Jesus
pondered his death on the cross they were a group of discouraged followers.
With the events of Good Friday they must have wondered if there was any
hope for life.
"When we gathered at Accra this summer for the General Council we heard
stories of that same hopelessness from churches in so many parts of the
world. But what gave us courage is that we heard even more powerful stories
of the power of Christ's suffering love to transform the world at work in
so many of our churches.
"We hope and pray that the power of the resurrected Christ will be with
you, your church and the broader family of the World Alliance of Reformed
Churches as we seek to live out Jesus' promise that he has come 'that all
may have life in fullness.' (John 10.10)
"We pray that your ministry will bring that message of hope alive to
members of your congregations this Easter season. We hope the prophetic
actions that we engage in together will bring life to replace the forces of
death that surround us," the WARC leaders said.
WARC is a fellowship of 75 million Reformed Christians in 218 churches in
107 countries.
