CONNECTICUT: Bishop urges congregations to accept oversight, remain in
communion
The Rt. Rev. Andrew D. Smith, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of
Connecticut, recently mailed letters to the clergy, wardens and vestry
of
six congregations in the diocese that requested Delegated Episcopal
Pastoral
Oversight last spring. In response to a number of inquiries he has
received
for comment, the bishop has released the following statement:
"The six parishes asked for Delegated Episcopal Pastoral Oversight
(DEPO)
last May. When it was offered, the expectations they had were different
from
what the church can allow. In the time since then, we've made no
progress in
the understanding that DEPO is what the church can offer. My clear
desire is
for the clergy and parishes to remain in communion and for us to
continue to
serve Christ together."

NEW YORK: Trinity Church grants reach out to unchurched Gen X'ers and
Latino
immigrants
The Reverend Dr. James H. Cooper, rector of the Parish of Trinity
Church-St.
Paul's Chapel, announced today $823,990 in grants, including support for
attracting Gen X'ers -- young people in their 20s and 30s -- to the
church,
as well as immigrants seeking communities of faith.
"Connecting with new populations is a particular challenge for mainline
Protestant churches," said Dr. Cooper, Trinity's seventeenth rector.
"The
average age of Episcopalians is 60, but the average American is 32. Yet
many
Christians under 35 who leave mainstream churches yearn for a larger
purpose
to their lives. With these grants we're reaching out to those who are
seeking new spiritual connections."

of
its kind and receives entries from countries around the globe, including
Australia, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, Estonia, Germany, India,
Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Puerto Rico, Russia,
Singapore, Ukraine and United States. GraceCom previously earned a
Summit
Creative Award in 2000 for its television ad Campaign, "The Episcopal
Church
Welcomes You."
