2005 Derose-Hinkhouse Awards Awarded To ELCA Communicators

NASHVILLE (ELCA) -- The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) honored
several Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) communicators April
7 here at its annual DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards program.
Communicators were recognized for outstanding communication projects
in eight general categories. One ELCA periodical was named "Best in
Class," the top award given in any category, and a "Shoestring Award,"
given for outstanding projects completed with little money, was given to
an ELCA synod periodical.
RCC is an international interfaith association of religion
communicators in print and electronic communication, marketing and public
relations. The awards chair was Linda Svensk, ELCA Board of Pensions,
Minneapolis. Svensk, and the Rev. Ron T. Glusenkamp, who completed his
term as RCC president, presented the awards. Glusenkamp is vice president
for customer outreach with the ELCA Board of Pensions.
DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial awards are given annually to active RCC
members who demonstrate excellence in religion communication and public
relations. The awards are named in honor of the late Victor DeRose and
the late Paul M. Hinkhouse, leading lithographers in New York and longtime
friends of RCC.
Women of the ELCA, Chicago, was winner of the Award of Excellence and
Best of Class award for Electronic Communication. Nancy Goldberger and
Elizabeth McBride were recognized for the online magazine, "Cafe --
Stirring the Spirit Within."
Women of the ELCA won five other DeRose-Hinkhouse awards:

Bangert and Eric Shafer, "Communication Evangelism Print Ad Project"

Martin and Shafer, "Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas"

Two awards were presented to the ELCA Board of Pensions:

+ Non-Broadcast Audio and Video, Award of Merit: Greg Lawson, "Naughty
(and Nice)," ELCA Board of Pensions holiday luncheon.
Marilyn Fursman, ELCA Southwest California Synod, Glendale, was
winner of one of two Shoestring Awards. Furman was recognized for the
periodical, "The Scene."
