HOBGOOD JOINS RELIGIOUS LEADERS AT CONFERENCE CALLING FOR AN END TO GLOBAL
HUNGER
Dozens of religious leaders met in Washington, D.C. earlier this week to
issue a joint call for action to end global hunger. The first Interfaith
Convocation on Hunger was organized by Bread for the World, a Christian
anti-hunger organization based in Washington. Wm. Chris Hobgood, General
Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was
among those who participated in the convocation and attended a four-day
conference, called "One Table, Many Voices: A Mobilization to Overcome
Poverty and Hunger." The conference included a day of lobbying on Capitol
Hill for a hunger relief bill.

"It is the stated goal of the interfaith community that hunger be
eliminated in the USA by 2015, and in the world soon after," said Hobgood.
"About 13,500,000 children in the USA are daily threatened with little
food or, at best, inadequate diets. The evil of this all is that there is
more than enough food, but we are simply not putting the food together
with the people. The need is for the political will to do it, not more
resources."
The four-day event of workshops and speeches was co-sponsored by Bread for
the World and Call to Renewal, a Washington-based Christian anti-poverty
network. For further information, go to http://www.onetableconference.org/
