REMINDER: Progressive Baptists To Speak Out On Social Issues

PROGRESSIVE NATIONAL BAPTIST CONVENTION TO SPEAK OUT ON SOCIAL ISSUES;
PRESS CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR 2 P.M., WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10

WHAT: The Progressive National Baptist Convention (PNBC) will host its 44th
Annual Session in Detroit on August 8-12. Kicking off the Annual Session
will be a Women's Conference on August 5-7 and highlights for the week-long
series of events include a Career Expo, "Cruisin' for Christ" motorcade,
Youth Night, Missions Ministry Night, President's Educational Banquet, an
evangelism crusade and programs focusing on Christian Education and civil and
human rights. Attendees will have an opportunity to increase their religious
knowledge by attending Christian education courses and workshops as well as
to celebrate, worship, and work on an agenda for the African American
community.

WHO: PNBC is made up of more than 2,000 churches and 2.5 million members
globally. Attendance at the Annual Session is expected to exceed 10,000
people.

WHY: PNBC will develop resolutions that address topics of great interest and
concern to the membership and present them at the press conference, including
the need for universal healthcare, living wage, economic development,
unemployment, the crisis of education in America, the war in Iraq, the
Supreme Court nomination, proposed Social Security changes, the Re-enactment
of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the plight of children, the criminal
justice system, the global African initiative, the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa,
and the U.S. boycott of Cuba.

WHEN: The PRESS CONFERENCE is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10th at 2 p.m.
with Dr. Major L. Jemison, President of the Progressive National Baptist
Convention, presiding.
