MONMOUTH, IL - Mauri Ditzler, the former dean of Wabash College in
Crawfordsville, IN, took office as the 13th president of Monmouth College on
July 1. Ditzler, 52, a 1975 graduate of Wabash, became chief academic officer
for his alma mater in 1999. He earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from
Duke University in 1979. He taught at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester,
MA, for 15 years before becoming a dean at Millikin University in Decatur,
IL. In his final year there, he was acting vice president for academic
affairs.

MARYVILLE, TN - The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the denomination's National
Ministries Division and NMD's Leadership and Vocation Goal area recently
awarded Maryville College $9,900 over three years to fund a new "Teaching of
the Bible" speaker series. The series will bring in one speaker per year to
address topics related to the Bible's relevance to contemporary issues and
concerns.

SITKA, AK - The U.S. Congress, through the Department of Education, has
awarded the first of $306,956 of a $1.95 million, five-year grant to Sheldon
Jackson College to support its Rural Alaska Preparation Program (RAPP), which
helps Alaska Native high school students acquire the skills they will need to
succeed in college.

DANVILLE, KY - For two Centre College students, the end of summer marks the
conclusion of internships in Washington DC. Senior Melissa Reid and junior
Mike Samford worked as interns at the U.S. Department of Labor, where they
conducted independent research projects and met U.S. Secretary of Labor
Elaine Chao.
