NEW YORK, NY - George J. Tenet, former Director of Central Intelligence,

at 7:00 p.m., October 22 at the New York Hilton honoring the former
president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev.

President Gorbachev will be the recipient of the Athenagoras Human Rights
Award, established in 1986 honoring Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras who
served as Archbishop of the Americas for 18 years before being elected
Ecumenical Patriarch
of Constantinople in 1948. He was universally acknowledged as a visionary
leader of Orthodoxy who worked for peace among Churches and people
throughout his life. Previous recipients have included Archbishop Desmond
Tutu, President Jimmy Carter, President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush,
Mother Teresa, Elie Wiesel and the late Archbishop Iakovos.

The son of Greek immigrants and a native New Yorker, Mr. Tenet was elected

Orthodox Church who have been granted the title by the Ecumenical
Patriarchate of Constantinople. He will be invested with the Class of 2005,
on Sunday, October 23, at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in
New York. Dr. Anthony Limberakis, the Order's National Commander, said "We
are proud to have as our toastmaster, our fellow archon, George Tenet, who
has so distinguished himself in national service, faithful to his Church
and heritage."

Mr. Tenet served as CIA Director from July of 1997 to until his resignation
in June, 2004. He previously served as Deputy Director of Central
Intelligence, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of
Intelligence Programs at the National Security Council, and on President
Clinton's national security transition team. He was also Staff Director of

overseeing comprehensive legislation to reorganize US intelligence.

Mr. Tenet holds a B.S.F.S. degree from the Georgetown University School of
Foreign Service and an M.I.A. from Columbia University's School of
