December 4 on ABC-TV -- 'Shadow Voices'

New York, November 23, 2005 -- An intimate, inside look at living with a
mental illness, the newest National Council of Churches USA-sponsored
television documentary, will begin airing on ABC affiliates across the
country on Dec. 4.  "Shadow Voices" examines how individuals and their
families find their way through a tangle of mental, medical, governmental,
societal and spiritual issues. 

Ten persons with mental illness from across the U.S. tell their stories, plus
many experts and advocates in the field add helpful perspectives, including
former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and former Surgeon General Dr. David
Satcher. 

This program follows last year's NCC documentary on suicide, "Fierce
Goodbye."  Local stations may air this special anytime between Dec. 4 and
Feb. 4, so check with your ABC affiliate for the exact date and time in your
area. 

Since its founding in 1950, the National Council of the Churches of Christ in
the USA has been the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among
Christians in the United States. The NCC's member faith groups --
representing a wide spectrum of Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, historic
African American and Living Peace churches -- include 45 million persons in
more than 100,000 local congregations in communities across the nation.
