LEAVING TOO MANY CHILDREN BEHINDThe Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
along with other members of the National Council of Churches' Committee
(NCC) for Public Education and Literacy warned that the 'No Child Left
Behind' Act is leaving more children behind than it is saving. Declaring
that "Christian faith demands, as a matter of justice and compassion, that
we be concerned about our public schools," the NCC Committee for Public
Education has issued 10 "moral concerns" about the implementation of the
act. Read the 10 moral concerns at: http://www.ncccusa.org/news/051130NoChildBehind.html DISCIPLES WILL ATTEND THE NINTH WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
ASSEMBLYAmong the 3,000 expected participants at the Ninth Assembly of the

Minister and President, Robert K. Welsh, President, Council on Christian
Unity, and Sara Critchfield, Associate for Foreign Policy and Young Adult
Advocacy, Disciples Center for Public Witness, Washington, D.C. They will

States as delegates. The Assembly will be held Feb. 14-23, 2006, in Porto
Alegre, Brazil, and the theme is "God, in your grace, transform the

WITH THE EPA'S ENERGY SAVINGS PROGRAMThe Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has designed the ENERGY STAR program to support congregations'
concerns for financial and environmental stewardship. The program assists
churches in making decisions on facilities and equipment that save money
and prevent pollution. Congregations that commit to substantial energy
savings can cut utility costs 25-30 percent and make significant contributions to a cleaner environment. By saving money with energy efficiency,
congregations could achieve the equivalent of removing about 1 million
cars and their pollution from the road, or planting nearly 1.4 million
acres of trees. Learn how your congregation can cut costs by reading the
ENERGY STAR for Congregations Guide at: http://www.epa.gov/smallbiz/archive/doc/congregations.pdf. Begin with the checklist on Page 85 and start
saving money today! Please note: Communication Ministries is moving to
