WOOSTER, OH - R. Stanton Hales, the president of the College of Wooster, has announced that he will retire on June 30, 2007, capping 17 years of service to the school, including 12 years as president. The college's trustees are starting a national search for a new president, according to the school's Web site.

SITKA, AK - The Rev. David Dobler, of Anchorage, AK, has been named acting president of Sheldon Jackson College. Dobler, a former moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is on a leave of absence from his duties as executive of Yukon Presbytery, according to a news release from the school. Dobler succeeds Arthur Cleveland, who became the college's president in August 2004.

CLINTON, SC - Patricia T. Morris, director of programs at Women for Women International (WFW), will discuss the affects of armed conflict on females across the globe, and steps being taken to help them rebuild their lives, during a Feb. 14 lecture at Presbyterian College. She will discuss "The Witness of Women in a War-Torn World" at 11 a.m. in Belk Auditorium, then participate in a 2 p.m. panel discussion with members of the PC community in Edmunds Hall.

SAN ANTONIO, TX - David W. Orr, an expert in environmental literacy and a professor at Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH, will present a lecture, "What's Left of Conservatism? Politics Post-Katrina, Post-Iraq, and Post-Peak Oil," at Trinity University on Feb. 9. The free public lecture will be in Chapman Great Hall at 7:30 p.m.

RALEIGH, NC - Jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis will perform in a chamber music concert on Feb. 19 at Peace College. The event also will feature members of the North Carolina Symphony, the Peace College Chamber Singers and soprano Judith Bruno. The free, public 7:30 p.m. concert will be in Kenan Recital Hall.

WAYNESBURG, PA - Former Waynesburg College student Rebecca Cox-Davenport's book Student Nurse Playbook: The Nursing Instructor's Guide to a Winning Session was published in December. The book, consisting of games to help students learn the material covered in their classes, is for nursing educators. Cox-Davenport graduated in July 2005 from the Waynesburg College Masters in Nursing Education program. She did her undergraduate work at Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in Lancaster, PA. She now works as a nursing instructor at the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA.
