The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) will hold a ceremony for the dedication of its Guest House and Ecumenical Centre on February 9. The Guest House has been named after Africa?s renowned Church leader, the Rt. Rev. Desmond Tutu who will grace the occasion. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 A.M.
The AACC?s Conference Hall will also be named after former AACC General Secretary, Rev. Jose Chipenda from Angola.
All AACC Executive Committee members will attend the dedication and naming ceremony.
The Deputy Resident Representative, Mr. Innocent Kayihura of UNDP will launch the recently published ?Mustard Seeds? project on poverty alleviation.
To AACC, no choice could have been better for
this honour than that of Rev. Desmond Tutu, one of Africa?s most outstanding sons. Rev. Tutu has a very impressive background in church circles, including his service as the first black General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches. A polished crusader and champion of human rights, Rev. Tutu has been in the forefront advocating for a democratic and just society without racial divisions. In his work, he demanded equal civil rights for all in South Africa, the abolition of apartheid regime?s pass laws, a common system of education, and the cessation of forced deportation from South Africa to the so-called ?homelands?.
Rev. Tutu was President of the AACC between 1987 and 1997 and ably led the organisation through a challenging time in its history.
Rev. Tutu will address the audience and there
will be a press conference following the ceremony.
